Why is $x^2+y^2-1$ irreducible in $F[x,y]$?
I have a polynomial ring $R = F[x,y]$ with a degree 2 polynomial,
$$P(x,y) = x^2 + y^2 - 1$$
and I want to show that it is irreducible. We have
$$P(x,y) = P(x- rac{y}{2},y)
